Dean wondered vaguely if he should have let Sam drive. He spent half the ride with his eyes in the mirror trying to catch a glimpse of Y/N.

She was still out cold, wrapped in her favorite sweatshirt, asleep in her usual corner. Her face was calm, her breathing normal, as if she’d simply fallen asleep on the long ride.

Cas was back there with her but Dean was beyond worried. His hands twitched on the wheel and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat, struggling to keep his eyes on the road and his mind on the mission.

“Yeah, I know that. That’s not what I asked.”

“No. She’s not OK.” Cas shook his head and looked over at her. “Her sleep is plagued by nightmares, and when she wakes, the nightmares will still be there.”

Dean’s jaw clenched as he swallowed a wave of hurt. “Can ya… lie to me a little?” His eyes returned to the mirror. “Please?”

“I don’t see how that would help,” Castiel grumbled in reply.
